| Subject: Bhearus Application (Approved) Thu Jul 07, 2011 1:05 am | |
| 1. Character Name (this will be your name on the site and forums): Bhearus
2a. Primary Class (Jedi Consular, Jedi Knight, Smuggler, or Trooper): Jedi Consular
2b. Advanced Class (if decided): None Thus Far
3. Please describe your knowledge of Star Wars? The more detailed the better, please: Seen the movies, use to play Star Wars the RPG tabletop back in the day when it was D6's and the special die. Loved it, absolutely loved it. Some of my fondest childhood memories are playing Star Wars in the projection room of the Kambe Theatre in Alaska. I probably read the RPG book a thousand times.
4. Please tell us about your other guild/MMO experiences. If there is more than one guild/experience, please include all of them. If you left your last guild, please tell us why you decided to leave. If you have used more than one name, please list them all. Guild Name (Reason for leaving if applies): I'm a busy guy, I graduate from college in 6 months with a BS in Game Programming, and am currently building a platform game for the iphone. thomasaperry.com. Other than that I'm married with two children and do not have time to spend on more than one guild. My previous guild was on World of Warcraft and there is not much RPin to do and WoW has grown tiring. 5. What type of role do you wish to take within the guild? How do you plan to be active? Please be specific. I enjoy role-playing, good, deep, hardcore role-playing. Not to be taken seriously, mostly just socializing and talking about adventures. I *can* take on an officer role, and have built up two guilds on WoW in the past, one was an all rogue guild that had 20 routinely active members. Wicked Fun, before honor points and pvp rewards. Anyway, I am not particularly fond of drama, but can identify it pretty quickly. As an officer my primary goal would be to interact with the players on a role-playing level. It is not a requirement by any stretch of the imagination I am just willing to undertake that kind of position. My primary goal is to role-play as a Jedi Consular; Everything else is a plus.
6. Why do you feel the Army of Light is a good fit for you? In the guild description it is mentioned to have heavy role-playing, and there are quite a few members so I am hoping they share the same perspective.
7. What do you expect of the guild? Please be specific. Role-playing, interaction, fun, relaxation. I make it a point not to expect too much from anything or anyone. However, some expectations should be met in terms of maturity.
8. Age* (Must be 16+): 31
9. Time Zone: EST
10.Role-Play experience/expectations. Can you give us some examples of Role-Playing you have participated in before. When it comes to expectations, give us an example of what would be fun to participate in, what you are looking for, etc. Honestly, good nature interaction, casual conversations, but also some interaction via the ranking system. I would not expect to treat even a lowly ranking individual poorly, even role-playing, unless for some reason I was in a position similar to a Game Master or Dungeon Master and the circumstances were made apparent and agreed upon with the other party that the session was in fact role-playing specific.
I have Dungeon Mastered for many, many years in Dungeons and Dragons, and I prefer DMing over playing if that tells you anything. I base my games purely on the merit of fun, and have house rules to make it so. I am huge on being respectful to my players and to those I role-play with, unless as a DM I am playing a character who is not a nice person and only after confirming with the other person/party will I play such a role. Playing such a role in this guild would probably be something I would be comfortable with only after a great deal of time in game with other players and only after I knew them enough to know how to approach that kind of character.
In short, I have extensive role-playing experience, realistic and focused on fun.
11. How can you benefit and help the guild? Please include any skills or talents you have that you would enjoy doing within the guild. How have you helped your previous guild(s), if you have previous experience? Historically, I am a war veteran and was an intelligence specialist in the Navy, so I have that attention to detail perspective. I have been in nearly 10,000 houses as a cable guy so interaction with people in general is not difficult. Therefore, providing alternative perspectives to situations is a specialty of mine. I can, identify drama at a distance (usually), and I am capable of staying out of it. While I prefer not to deal with it, if I were in such a position I can and would handle it.
I also over the last few years have developed a different perspective of games so that might be helpful.
12. How do you define a quality member? Integrity, Maturity, Honor, Respect, Trust... Many snicker at that, but I fortunately and unfortunately live by them and expect others to as well.
13. How did you find the Army of Light? Did someone recruit you? If so, please let us know who. Start Wars Website
14a.Have you visited our website and chat room, and familiarized yourself with the, Charter, Mission Statement, and Rules of Conduct? (You must answer in the affirmative and please prove that you have) Yes
14b. Do you pledge to fulfill them, most notably to uphold the virtues of Maturity, Honor, Respect, Personal Ethics and No Drama? Yes
14c. The Army of Light wishes to have members who take the concept of Commitment and Loyalty very seriously. By applying and if accepted, you are taking an Oath to both the guild and your guild-mates here. Is this something to which you can commit? Yes
15. Would you say that you embody the qualities of Respect, Honor, Loyalty, and Maturity? What are your definitions of these four words? Please don’t just answer yes or no, let us know why you think you possess these qualities. Well I'm married, pride goes right out the window after that. lol. I actually answered above before I read these questions so that was a little preemptive I suppose. I usually refer to them as Honor, Respect, Trust, Loyalty, and Love. Well I have been happily married for ten years, I work hard, I put my family first, I am realistic about my goals, my father loved the golden rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." and so do I. I'm a pretty normal guy, just looking for some role-playing and some place to relax when I can.
16. Tell us about a time you offered assistance to someone who did not ask for it but clearly needed it. If you have never had this experience, tell us what you would do if faced with that situation? I have numerous experiences here, a friend near where I live is like a grandmother to my kids. She has a close friend who has cancer and a few months ago she asked me if I would be willing to work on her computers. I did, happily, repaired, maintained, and optimized all three of her computers for free and would do so again.
Dunkin Donuts employee once handed me a twenty dollar bill by accident, I didn't realize it until I drove away, I turned around and returned it. To me, that's integrity.
17. Role-play Scenario (please tell us how you would handle the situation): You are leading a group of 3 others through a forest on a remote moon to destroy an enemy communications relay. Up ahead in a clearing, you happen to spot a small Sith camp. Your group has not yet been spotted by the enemy. You are reasonably well supplied for your mission, including armaments. The clearing containing the Sith camp is not necessarily in your direct path to reach your original mission objective. Attacking the camp could alert the guards at the relay. However, attacking the relay without first dealing with the camp could mean enemy reinforcements from the camp. What do you do? Surprise is often the most powerful ally, If it was reasonable to take them out, I would, however, it would be unlikely that they would not be able to warn the relay therefore I would defer to taking out the relay and perhaps, if they were available, plant mines behind us to deal with any reinforcements.
18. In more than 50 but less than 200 words, please describe your personal character and the type of person you are (We wish to get a good feel of the type of person that will be becoming a part of our guild family - a very important question!) I am a goof ball, I love being a goof ball, I never insult someone intentionally, I have seen enough suffering and pain (as I'm sure we all have) to want to just focus on family and fun. For the fourth of July parade I was a muscle man. The reason I was a muscle man was because the dojo where I do Kung Fu at is looking for attention. The Sensei there does not make much money and so I try to help out as much as I can. It was great fun, I was a complete goofball, but it was worth it.
19. Tell us a little about your in-game character* -Character Name: Bhearus -Character Physical/Mental Features: Bhearus is a stall, well built man, blond hair, and blond beard. The idea behind his stature is to show one of scholarly, but adventurous. I like the idea of a character who is scholarly but also powerfully built. -Character Biography: At this point I am working on his background. As he will be a Jedi Consular, his upbringing will most likely be with the Jedi's.20. What is your registered user name on swtor.com?* (Please note that you should have applied at our Guild HQ as a part of this Application process by this point.) Crotalinae, viperp12@gmail.com

| #15 Respect, Honor, Loyalty, Maturity. Respect - Treating everyone equally, adhering to the rules and ranking structure. This is not particularly hard for me, but alas, Respect goes both ways. Honor - Returning the $20 to the Dunkin Donuts employee was not only honest, it was honorable. What do we gain from being prideful (I'm married remember? The wife 'Is' always right, it's true) Being responsible for my actions. Loyalty - In WoW, one way I demonstrated loyalty was to give items to guildies. On more than one occasion I gave away epic items to guild members. It's loyalty, I want the guild members to know that I'm a go to guy. Sticking with the guild is always loyalty. Maturity - In the face of the Drama that rears its ugly head, keeping a cool head and evaluating the situation calmly is maturity. Not begging for things, is maturity. Being realistic about a situation is maturity. Taking responsibility for my children, family, wife, and choices 'is' maturity. Being polite, respectful, is maturity. | |

| Hey Bhearus, nice app. I was going to say you should expand on #15, but it looks like Tal already beat me to it, so you look pretty good to go in my humble opinion. Good luck, we could always use more folks with a sense of humor!! | |

| Bhearus was not always his name… and a Jedi Consular was the last thing on his mind before taking the name Bhearus. It was a new beginning and Bhearus wanted to be a different person. So he changed what identified him, his name. He has no problem discussing it, his name before was Jacob. Nothing fancy.
Jacob had unusual abilities just like those few who are sensitive to the force and are either found and sent through school to become Jedi or die in some gutter before that. Before that, when Jacob was fifteen he was already neck deep in unlawful activities, not because he wanted to you see, the gang he was around had loyalty problems and issues with being honest, and who could have guessed right? Cut-throats, murderers, bad people all around being honest was not as simple as it might seem right? Jacob had a knack for pointing out when someone was lying he just sort of sensed it. He would sit on the side and the gang leader would look at him and Jacob would either sigh deeply for someone lying or nod for someone telling the truth. He never saw what happened to the liars, and at the time, a fifteen year old with no family to speak of, that he knew of, and no way to eat needed to make some credits to survive. It seemed like a decent gig to Jacob… at least at the time.
Most Jedi are trained from their childhood, but many still are discovered late, hey it happens, nobody is perfect and we cannot always find them when they are young and manageable. I am getting ahead of myself.
The gang leader, Davis, was a no bull kind of guy, arrogant, your average run of the mill bad guy, but smart like most bad guys are not. Davis had it all figured it out, he gave Jacob some leash to let him think he was free and able to run around, but all the while Jacob had a tracking device on him. In retrospect, Jacob never considered how easily it was for Davis to find him. He had just assumed Davis was really that connected. In the beginning that was not the case, but towards the end before everything went south Davis was indeed connected.
Jacob spent the better part of two years hooking Davis up with advantages over his competitors and helping him network through the government using honesty to advance his own ambitions. Sure, most of the people Jacob exposed were criminals, but this one man that was brought before Davis exposed Jacob’s second rather useful ability. The man’s name was Kenrill Bouyat, as in, Bouyat Speeders downtown. As Bouyat elaborate lied about being unable to pay the “protection fee” which by that point Jacob knew how Davis strong armed the locals, but hey, they make money they can afford to pay up right? Right? Anyway, Bouyat went on about his family and this and that and Jacob generally ignored this part of the blather, but something tugged at his gut and he felt himself look right at Bouyat only to be surprised to see Bouyat was looking at him.. Pleading… As if asking Jacob to do something for him. Jacob of course dutifully exposed the parts that were lies, but there was something about Bouyat that just made him stand out amidst all the lowlifes in the room and certainly apart from Davis. It took Jacob a minute or so and Davis had to ask him twice if Bouyat was telling the truth. They took Bouyat into the back room after that, and well why not? He was holding out on Davis.
Jacob had to do a little bit of thinking and realized a few days later that the reason Bouyat stood out was because he was a good man. It was not anything special, he stood out because he had a good heart, the kind that glows. He was an honorable man, and Jacob for the first time realized what he had been doing. What followed was that natural sort of fear that grips you at the gut. Jacob being some dumb teenager, who thought he knew it all, had no idea what to do.
It did not feel right to work for Davis anymore, he felt pulled in another direction uninterested in working for someone who cared little for the honest man trying to survive, but when he went somewhere he knew Davis could not find him they found him anyway. He was trapped, and worse, Davis figured it out pretty quickly and pulled Jacob to the side.
“If you attempt to leave planet I will hunt you down and skin you alive. I promise.” Davis said calmly. It was the calm part that did it. Jacob knew he was in for it now. He had no idea what freedom really was, he had believed he was free when he was really not. The worst part was, when he went to Bouyat’s a week later, the shop was closed. Jacob became curious and asked around and discovered that Bouyat went missing and his wife and kids fled the planet after selling the shop. As it turns out, that’s why Bouyat was holding out so he could get off the rock.
Well alright already! How does Jacob become Bhearus? Like any fairy tale set in a realistic situation. A Jedi showed up and kicked the crap out of Davis and his whole gang. Not just any Jedi. As it turns out the force runs in Jacob’s family, his uncle Deverell was still alive and a Jedi Knight no less. Deverell came specifically for Jacob as he had felt him when arriving on the planet for business.
It happened pretty fast and did not end as well as you might expect. Yes Deverall wiped the floor with Davis’s gang, and freed Jacob, but in the flight to get away from the planet Deverall was critically wounded. En route to the Jedi Temple, a few hours away Deverall recounted what had happened to their family and was able to communicate with the Jedi Council long enough to part with his last dying wish.
“I request that Jacob be given the opportunity to see the light for all he has lived in is darkness.” Deverall said.
It’s a good thing the ship was on autopilot, Deverall died on re-entry. Jacob was given the opportunity to prove himself and prove himself he did. He took the name Bhearus to shed his former life and start again.
