5. What type of role do you wish to take within the guild? How do you plan to be active? Please be specific.

In swg, post-jedi rankings, CU, and NGE, I created a jedi RP group and exchanged storylines with other BH and dark jedi on the server. I counted the seats in the yavin temple and created a bureaucracy of padawans, knights, consulars, and council members. The dark jedi side wasn’t equally competent, so I formulated a mirror “enclave” structure for them.

Of course, I don’t expect I need to do that with AL. On the kauri server, I had to create something where there was only a shell of a game. I’d love to be a story contributor to AL. Running my own RP group, I understand that stories are what drives such a guild. If I can help in any capacity of storyline generation and story weaving, I'd be glad to do so.

In my jedi RP group in swg, I created a story by which jedi within our own council betrayed the others, without the knowledge of the overall group, resulting in a permanent defection to the “other side.” Highly dramatic, and surprising.

6. Why do you feel the Army of Light is a good fit for you? I’m a good fit for any RP group that is hierarchical in nature and possesses a clear vision for its members. In full disclosure, I’ve also applied to The Corellian League, since I believe I’d also be a good fit for them as well. I’m highly adaptable to how different groups are run. In my swg RP group, all story generation came from the “top” and was disseminated to the “membership.” Other RP groups prefer more decentralized input.

7. What do you expect of the guild? Please be specific. My expectations are quite high (as yours should be of me). The freedom to allow me to tell stories for myself and for others, and yet, the guild structure that will provide stories to expand from as well. Many RP groups fall short due to the failure to keep telling stories.... and telling fresh ones.

10.Role-Play experience/expectations. Can you give us some examples of Role-Playing you have participated in before. When it comes to expectations, give us an example of what would be fun to participate in, what you are looking for, etc.

Briefly mentioned above, I was the chief generator of stories in my previous swg RP group. I created alts, and via in game mail, introduced plots to our members on an individual basis, assisted by various members of my "council." For me, RP leadership was a genuine task. To be a leader, was to be a primary storyteller, not a loot hoarder. Since I knew some members wanted to play as dark jedi, I allowed them that opportunity, weaving their "plots" and "seeds of betrayal" into other members storylines, without the prior knowledge of those members. Not knowing what comes next is often the best part of storytelling, for both the teller and the listener. It was a risk I took, since I was splintering the core group, but on a low pop server, we had two "RP cooperative" sides to work with. Over the remainder of the server's life, we cooperated in galaxy-wide stories and scripted "victories" and "defeats" (a necessary evil, when it came to unbalanced classes). It was a lot of work... but the members had fun.

11. How can you benefit and help the guild? Please include any skills or talents you have that you would
enjoy doing within the guild. How have you helped your previous guild(s), if you have previous experience?

Although I'm light on "canon," I'm very experienced in assisting other players in the advancement of their stories and how they tie into other member's stories. My previous experience has already been stated.

12. How do you define a quality member?

A "quality" member in a RP group (playing an mmorpg.... multiple layers of qualifications) understands the difference between "character" and "player." Being in character, the player is an actor. They can play the brash, rude smuggler archetype, a militaristic, impulsive jedi, or an introspective pacifist. However they choose to play, the player never abandons the underlying principles of the guild and the rules s/he plays by.

13. How did you find the Army of Light? Did someone recruit you? If so, please let us know who. A simple RP guild search by membership numbers.

14a.Have you visited our website and chat room, and familiarized yourself with the, Charter, Mission Statement, and Rules of Conduct? (You must answer in the affirmative and please prove that you have)

Frankly, I have not. Between the ads for lap bands, and dating Dominican girls, and the threads that I didn’t have authorization to view, I couldn’t find where the “Charter,” “Mission Statement”, or “Rules of Conduct” (other than “Guidelines and Policies”) were located. They were not found under “Guidelines and Policies”… where one would expect them to be. I have thoroughly read “Guidelines and Policies” section, however. And I have ventured to the chat room.

14b. Do you pledge to fulfill them, most notably to uphold the virtues of Maturity, Honor, Respect, Personal Ethics and No Drama?

Generally, I will not have a problem fulfilling those requirements... other than "scripted Drama"... I'm hoping for ample hours of that.

14c. The Army of Light wishes to have members who take the concept of Commitment and Loyalty very seriously. By applying and if accepted, you are taking an Oath to both the guild and your guild-mates here. Is this something to which you can commit?

Yes, at 36, "commitment" and "loyalty" are very commonplace RL themes for me.

15. Would you say that you embody the qualities of Respect, Honor, Loyalty, and Maturity? What are your definitions of these four words? Please don’t just answer yes or no, let us know why you think you possess these qualities.

You simply cannot play any mmorpg over a period of time without being able to "Respect" other players. Different people of various ages and economic pressures and cultural backgrounds all logging on, to be in the same server, to undergo the same experience. I have a deep respect for people who share my passion for a game. While respect is requisite, "Honor" and "Loyalty" take time to prove. Simply put, you do what you say you will do. People you play with, over time, become your family. In my opinion, failure to grasp the former three concepts, in a game or in RL, will hinder anyone's path to "Maturity." Hehe, I'm helping my gf raise her 11yr old part time, so we put these concepts into practice everyday. Kids respond to paragons, not lectures. Be qualities you want to instill in others.

16. Tell us about a time you offered assistance to someone who did not ask for it but clearly needed it. If you have never had this experience, tell us what you would do if faced with that situation?

I can't think of specific instances to name, but I do know that I value "altruism" very highly. As a former leader of my RP group, I often put the group's story advancement before my personal play time. Frankly, it's "compersion." My fulfillment in game, came from their fulfillment. Hehe, maybe it's parental.

17. Role-play Scenario (please tell us how you would handle the situation): You are leading a group of 3 others through a forest on a remote moon to destroy an enemy communications relay. Up ahead in a clearing, you happen to spot a small Sith camp. Your group has not yet been spotted by the enemy. You are reasonably well supplied for your mission, including armaments. The clearing containing the Sith camp is not necessarily in your direct path to reach your original mission objective. Attacking the camp could alert the guards at the relay. However, attacking the relay without first dealing with the camp could mean enemy reinforcements from the camp. What do you do?

[Overall, I would make sure that each member of my squad had an integral task in the story.] Classic "endorian themed assault." First of all, a frontal assault IS risky on the camp. therefore, we split up our group into disguised "Sith guards" and "republic prisoners." Approaching the camp in this mixed group, we could much easier take the camp by surprise at night.

18. In more than 50 but less than 200 words, please describe your personal character and the type of person you are (We wish to get a good feel of the type of person that will be becoming a part
of our guild family - a very important question!)

36 year old, owner of a family business, homeowner living in Houston with my gf of over 2 years, with a part time 11 year old son. In RL and in gaming, I have the utmost respect for hierarchy. However, my RL experience has taught me that people are often dealt with in different ways... the "soft" way and the "hard" way. I have a lot of experience dealing with people of different ages. While this doesn't make me the best pvp'er, but it does make me a good leader in groups.

In mmorpg's, I tend to be drawn into bureaucratic roles. In swg, I guild crafted extensively before delving into RP. In eve, I managed our corp's Recruitment Department (interviewing countless of players in and out of game) and Department of Logistics (we shipped player's traded goods between "safe space" and "pvp zones"... I was in charge of coordinating jumpship flight manifests and schedules, and owned the alts to make the actual jumps... and jumps had to made past 2am, to ensure the lanes were clear of pirates... good memories)... none of these roles are particularly attractive for players, typically gung ho on wanting combat, but I filled the roles because we needed them to be accomplished.

I do believe in task delegation, but 1) you have to trust the person you are delegating to and 2) you have to have a large enough guild pool to choose from. My experience has usually been in small guilds, and my RL experience in small business has accustomed me to wearing different hats for any organization I'm involved in.

AL does have that attraction for me in that it's a larger guild... in a small guild (or a small business), you always have to lead.

If it hasn't already been implemented, I already have some RP ideas for attracting more smugglers to our guild... but that's my old Recruiter's mind working on a problem... I tend to be a problem solver, before picking up a weapon.
